The goal for this super efficient, off grid home was to create a farm-like "old" home. It had to look like it has lived on the land for ever, and also to look like it has grown with the family throughout the generations. I think this home really captures that feel!
Because getting hydro to this site is not reasonable, we had to carefully design the building to be as efficient as possible to keep the solar electric system as small and affordable as we could.
I'm not sure what will be better, opening the windows and letting the breeze from the meadow blow through in summer or cozying up around the soapstone masonry oven in the winter?
